Coastal Planting
A quick guide to coastal planting of hedges, trees and plants.

We are located less than 100 feet from the Atlantic Ocean, tucked close in to the cliffs
and sheltered from some of the worst winds.
Such close proximity to the sea brings its own challenges, however this picture of yucca with
roses and tamarisk gives an idea of what can be grown.
A good website to visit on coastal planting is www.CoastalGardens.co.uk and for expert assistance on the subject, contact
www.CoastalGardeners.co.uk.
Most of our properties we maintain are within 5 miles of the coast, with many of them placed on the
exposed cliffs open to the prevailing southwesterly winds .
A must for any exposed situation is to provide shelter, and the following lists (though by no means
extensive), are a guide to what will survive and flourish on the coast.
A good book to read on this is the
Seaside Gardener by Richard Mortimer
